Our Doctors

Dr. Russell Johnsen
I grew up in a rural setting outside of Beatrice, Nebraska. A tennis scholarship led me to Hastings College, where I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1996. In 2006, my 1996 tennis team had the honor of being inducted into the Hastings College Athletic Hall of Fame. I received my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Kansas State University in 2000, and soon afterward began my veterinary career here in Arizona. My experience and interests include general medicine and surgery.
I enjoy fishing, working out, woodworking, and most of all spending time with my lovely wife Lisa, daughter Arwen, and son Tarek. And of course, I always enjoy watching Cornhusker football!

Dr. Tyler Padgett
Born and raised in Arizona, I attended Arizona State University for my undergraduate career, where I studied history and biology. I attended veterinary school at Western University in Southern California, where I earned my DVM in 2014 and joined the Beardsley team in June 2015. My veterinary interests include internal medicine, surgery, and dermatology, among others.
In my free time, my wife and I enjoy playing with our two daughters and our dog, Emma. I also enjoy hiking, watching sports, and fly fishing.

Dr. Michelle Costales
I am originally from southern California but as I moved to Arizona when I was four, I consider myself an Arizona native. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in 2014 from the University of Arizona and studied Molecular and Cellular Biology and Psychology. I went on to study Toxicology at Colorado State University, where I received my Masters. I graduated from Midwestern University in 2021 with my DVM before joining the AZPetVet Beardsley team. My veterinary interests include internal medicine, toxicology, surgery, and behavior.
In my free time I am with my friends, family, and dogs (Scout, Haisley, and Baxter), reading, or binge watching a show.

Dr. Katherine Juliene
I grew up in Long Beach, CA and received my BS from UC Davis before attending Ross University where I earned my Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. While I was an undergraduate, I volunteered with 2 different shelter medicine programs, which grew my interest in the field. Following graduation, I moved back to Long Beach and worked as a full-time veterinary technician for a year, prior to beginning veterinary school. In practice I am most interested in cardiology, soft tissue surgery, and internal medicine. The opportunity to improve the health of patients on a daily basis, whether it be through medical intervention or preventative care, is what really gets me out of bed in the morning.
Outside of the office I love going out to find good food, or taking my dogs to the dog park to watch them play. My wife is a big fan of escape rooms so I usually get roped in to doing one every couple weeks. I've actually managed to become pretty good at escaping! My wife and I co-parent 5 dogs ranging from 10lbs to 60lbs. They keep us on our toes!
In my opinion, nothing is cuter than a sassy chihuahua, or any small dog. I grew up with 2 very sassy chihuahuas and developed such a love for them! Now that I have my own family of dogs, I was sure to adopt a chihuahua as the cherry on top! His name is Sprinkle and he has quickly become alpha of the pack!
